A special edition of Talking Movies, focused on Indian film, screens on BBC World
News on DStv channel 400 on 8 and 9 February.
Presented by Tom Brook, the programme, which airs from Mumbai in India,
features an interview with filmmaker Mira Nair (The Reluctant Fundamentalist,
Salaam Bombay! and Monsoon Wedding), and will examine the changing
relationship between Hollywood and Bollywood.
New storytelling trends in Bollywood and new genres which move away from the
standard song-and-dance performances will also be discussed.
The programme is not limited to filmmaking in Mumbai and examines the lively
film culture that exists in other cities across India.
This edition of Talking Movies also includes a report on the development of
independent cinema in the country, with many documentaries directed at political
and social issues, finding new audiences and achieving critical acclaim.
Talking Movies – India screens on Saturday 8 February at 14h30 and Sunday 9
February at 09h30 and 21h30.
