Ivorian soccer champion Didier Drogba is the star in a new campaign for Windhoek
Lager, produced by Cape Town advertising agency The Jupiter Drawing Room.
The 90-second spot, directed by Matt Bieler and produced by Shayne Brookstein,
features Drogba running and kicking a soccer ball across a montage of African
scenes – from bustling rural villages to sweeping sandy dunes to the edges of
treacherous cliffs. The narrative builds as shots showing African supporters waiting
in anticipation are intercut until Drogba finally reaches a soccer stadium and
triumphs in an epic win.
The commercial shows the resilience and tradition of African people, and their
ability to persevere through challenges and adversity. This, according to
Jacqueline Pack, senior brand manager for Windhoek at Namibia Breweries, mirrors
the true African success story of Windhoek Lager.
“Drogba shares the same values and conviction that we do. Not only is he a
proudly world-class African, but he has also kept it real, prioritising the important
things in life above triviality and the temptation to do it easier,’ says Pack.
