On Sunday, 24 November at the Moreleta Church in Pretoria, the Top two idols
for season nine were performed two of their greatest season nine hits as well
as their brand new original singles. After Musa Sukwene won a coin toss to
decide who would sing first, Brenden Ledwaba opened the final showdown.
In round one, the show producers selected their favourite performance for the
Top two to perform again. Round two’s selection was decided by the singers,
and round three revealed each performers’ brand new songs.
For his first round, Ledwaba sang Asa’s Jailer, and in his second a favourite hit
for the season, Rihanna’s Stay. Gareth Cliff said that this performance of Stay
was probably the best he’d ever seen Ledwaba perform.
Producers selected the Ringo Madlingozi hit Ndiyagodola for Sukwene to perform
in round one and he selected Marvin Gaye’s Sexual Healing to perform in round
two.
Unathi Msengana was impressed at how the contestants were handling the
pressure, and thought the repeat performances sounded dynamic.
Randall Abrahams added that he was looking forward to the Finale to see who
wins because he felt the competition was extremely evenly matched.
Positive feedback from the judges continued into round three when Ledwaba
performed his single, Fingerprints. “It’s catchy, it’s funky, it’s pop, but there’s
also a big soulful element to it,’ said Unathi.
Sukwene’s single, I Still Feel It, was also well received and Gareth commented:
“What a season! What a show. Man, did that showcase your voice
beautifully!’
