Over 100 aspiring Namibian filmmakers are attending workshops in the capital city of Windhoek, organised in partnership between the Namibian Filmmakers Association (NFA) and the Stockholm International Film Festival.

Award-winning Namibian filmmaker Joel Haikali, chairperson of the NFA, is leading the workshops which run over weekends.

“Each weekend we have 10 learners and we still have eight more weekends to go,’ said Haikali. “The learners are taught how to develop stories on the first day; they then shoot their films and spend the whole of the Sunday editing.’

So far out of the 20 learners that have gone through the workshops, six short films have been shot.

There will be no workshop this coming weekend (27 – 28 July) because Haikali will be attending the Durban International Film Festival (DIFF). Haikali’s film, Try, screens at DIFF on 25 and 26 July.

Once the workshops are completed, all the short films will be presented to the Stockholm International Film Festival, which funded the workshop programme.
