OLX, South Africa’s fastest growing online classifieds company, has launched an Afrikaans television campaign using well-known comedic duo Hannes Brummer and Melt Sieberhagen.

The humorous television campaign aims to increase brand awareness and showcase that OLX is the only leading online classifieds site with the offering of viewing its offerings in English and Afrikaans.

Bronwyn Johnson, head of Marketing for OLX Africa, says OLX wants to build on the success of their English ads featuring Lungile and Tsepo, which have already received 1 million YouTube views, by introducing new characters to the Afrikaans market.

“The creation of the Afrikaans TVC came about as a collaborative effort between ad agency Studio Zoo, director Bevan Cullinan, Hannes Brummer and Melt Sieberhagen and the OLX marketing team,’ Johnson adds. “Having the comedians write the script ensured that it maintained authenticity and the result was that it came across very naturally.’

Brummer and Sieberhagen are known to audiences as the stand-up duo Die Flying Dutchman. Sieberhagen has had roles in movies such as Oh Shucks, I’m Gatvol; Footskating 101; Poena is Koning; and District 9. Both actors have a long list of South African television credits.

“The choice of actors for this campaign was easy. For many years Melt and Hannes have been flying the flag for Afrikaans alternative comedy, they are highly energetic and have proven themselves in the market as leading stand-up comedians,’ Johnson comments.

“It was important for us to create a campaign that would resonate with the Afrikaans market. As there is a strong overlap between this market and internet usage, we are looking forward to seeing how it responds, but initial feedback has been very positive,’ concludes Johnson.
