Zombies invade SA box office

In its opening weekend the Brad Pitt starrer, World War Z (including 3D) (96 prints), made a blockbusting R3.4m at the South African box office, which gave it top spot in the Combined Top 10 from 19 to 21 July.

Directed by Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace) and starring South African actor Fana Mokoena, World War Z focuses on a global Zombie pandemic.

On release for three weeks, the animated Despicable Me 2 (including 3D) (100 prints) made the second spot over the weekend with R3,312,198. Its cumulative box office is a staggering R28.3m.

Two South African films continue their campaigns at the local box office. After five weeks of release Spud 2: The Madness Continues (7 prints) has made R6.8m and Die Laaste Tango (12 prints) has made just over R1m in three weeks.
