New South African comedy, 100 Meter Leeuloop, premiered at Nu Metro Menlyn Park in Pretoria on Thursday 7 March 2013. Popular Afrikaans singer and actor, Robbie Wessels, who plays three roles in the film, was joined by fellow cast members Annette Engelbrecht and Hanna Grobler with local celebs such as singer Bok van Blerk and former Springbok rugby player Naas Botha also in attendance.

“I think people will really enjoy the movie,” says Wessels. “There is something for old and young. We had a lot of fun writing the screenplay.”

The 100 Meter Leeuloop is structured as a mockumentary told in reality style and centres around Manie Mol, a musician who is yet to find his own identity. He enters the 100 Meter Leeuloop as one of five finalists in a competition to establish who can run, dance and do the leeuloop (lion’s walk) at the same time.

Diony Kempen and Robbie Wessels co-directed the movie while Coleske Artists acted as the executive producers. Wessels also co-wrote the screenplay with his brother, Hamilton, who also stars in the movie.

The 100 Meter Leeuloop releases nationwide in South Africa on Friday 15 March and is distributed by Nu Metro Films.
