News 24 reports that a fire that broke out at the M-Net studios in Lagos, Nigeria on Saturday 2 March wreaked havoc to property, equipment and broadcasting schedules.
The fire caused extensive damage to the Ojota Studios facility, which belongs to MultiChoice Nigeria. According to the news site, the studios are primarily used to broadcast SuperSport and record soaps and magazine shows.
SuperSport’s live transmission in Nigeria for the weekend was just about to start when the fire broke out and destroyed the entire SuperSport studio.
Although MultiChoice is being blamed for the extensive damage for not having a water hydrant on the premise, an insider told Screen Africa that the company from which MultiChoice rents the studio should have seen to water hydrants being in place.
