Third degree about bullying

In South Africa, bullying is now the number one concern for learners and their families. 3rd Degree investigates why Nkululeko Ndlovu, a student at Phineas Xulu Secondary School in the East Rand, was shot dead allegedly by fellow pupil Tsundzukani Mthombeni.

Last November, the story made headlines when it was revealed that Mthombeni had been bullied by Ndlovu and his friends. Mthombeni allegedly stole his mother’s pistol to shoot his tormentor and the youngster now faces charges of murder, theft and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

In a shocking revelation, more than half of learners say they have been bullied and don’t feel safe at school. The rise of technology has made the situation more difficult as cyber bullying is on the increase.
