The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has released a statement in response to the rumour circulating around many print publications and the public that its SABC3 soapie, Isidingo, will be cancelled.

Production on Isidingo was severely affected by the devastating fire that ripped through its studio at SABC Henley Television Facilities in Auckland Park, Johannesburg in June this year.

The statement reads: We would like to allay the fears of the public, and confirm that Isidingo has not been cancelled or being taken off air. In fact, the SABC board on 30 October, approved that management in the television division begin negotiations with production company Endermol South Africa for the re-commisioning of 520 episodes of Isidingo. These episodes will be series 16 and 17 of the soapie.

The SABC appreciates enquires received on this rumour, as it shows the immense interest in SABC programmes, particularly Isidingo in this instance.
