The creative excellence of African broadcasters MTV Base and Comedy Central was recognised at the PromaxBDA Africa awards on 26 October. The two stablemate channels from Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN Africa) took home eight awards at the prestigious broadcast awards show.
For the third year in a row, MTV Base (DStv Channel 322) won the Gold award for “Best Sponsor Integration’ for its work on prosocial multimedia campaign MTV Base Meets with MTN. The same campaign notched up two silver awards: for Best Programme Title Sequence Design and Best Documentary or Factual Entertainment Promo.
Other golds were won by MTV Base campaigns MTV Base VJ Search (Best Reality Promo), and House Warming, MTV Base’s top rated house music show, which won two golds including Best Music/Arts Promo.
In its first year of competition, Comedy Central (DStv Channel 122) received two silver awards, both for comedy special The Comedy Central Roast of Steve Hofmeyr. The first, for Best Use of Humour in Promotion, went to “The Roast of Steve Hofmeyer – Steve’s Song” – a hilarious parody of a Steve Hofmeyr music video starring Hofmeyr himself, while a second promo took home a silver for “The Roast of Steve Hofmeyer – Answering Machine” in which a camera panned lazily around a room as Trevor Noah’s left a barbed phone message for Hofmeyr.
VIMN Africa Creative Director Tim Horwood accepted the awards on behalf of the pan-African multimedia network.
Commented Alex Okosi, Senior Vice President & Managing Director, VIMN Africa: “Tim and the team continue to create brilliant and stimulating work that emotionally connects with viewers while delivering solid solutions for clients.”
Tim Horwood commented: “We are thrilled to receive this acknowledgment of VIMN Africa’s creative innovation and expertise from our peers and colleagues in the African creative and youth culture space.’
