The Polish “rebellious’ film festival, Tofifest, has announced a call for entries for the upcoming festival which runs from 20 to 26 October in Torun. The 10th anniversary edition of this prestigious international film event is one of the most important film happenings in Poland that supports and promotes independent films and filmmakers. The Golden Angel Award will be granted in three categories.
So far, Tofifest has invited Jim Sheridan, Jiri Menzel, Emanuelle Seigner, Janusz Gajos, Jerzy Stuhr and Julia Jentsch to attend the event.
Producers and filmmakers are invited to submit films in three categories:
ON AIR – international competition for full-length feature film debuts (and second feature films);
SHORTCUT – international competition for short films; and
FROM POLAND – national (Polish) competition for full-length feature films.
“While selecting films for the ON AIR Competition, we will put particular emphasis on films which have not been previously presented at other festivals, especially at the Polish festivals,” says Kafka Jaworska, director of Tofifest IFF.
All kinds of films ie. short films, documentaries, experimental works and animation, will be eligible for the SHORTCUT Competition. Only films not exceeding 35 minutes will be accepted.
The FROM POLAND Competition will focus on Polish films of the last two years. Premieres and debuts, including independent films, are particularly welcome. Golden Angel Awards are accompanied by prize money of 6,000 euro.
If films do not qualify for competition but present in the Selection Committee’s opinion a high artistic quality, they will be shown in the FORUM section of the festival which gives an overview of the best independent cinema of recent years.
The deadline for film entries is 10 September. The film’s acceptance to the competition is determined by the receipt date of an online application. Preview copies must be submitted to the Festival Office within a week after the closing date for entries (until 17 September). To apply online log on to http://www.tofifest.pl/en/submit.
