On 7 July in Johannesburg judges for the South Africa’s Next Top Filmmaker 2012 competition selected three young filmmakers out of 15 semi-finalists to go into the final round. The finalists are Mondli Magenuka, Nompumelelo Tshabalala and Tebogo Kgakoa.
All three filmmakers have been assigned to work with production companies for the final phase of the competition. Magenuka will work with Endemol South Africa, Tshabalala is placed with Ochre Moving Pictures and Kgakoa will work with Quizzical Pictures (formerly Curious Pictures).
The judging panel consisted of Mariki Van der Walt and JP Potgieter from Quizzical Pictures, Anton Burggraaf from Ochre Moving Pictures and Tracy-Ann Van Rooyen and Bev Ditsie from Endemol South Africa.
“Our judges were amazed at the level of talent and creativity displayed by the semi-finalists, some of whom came from as far away as Limpopo and the Eastern Cape. After a very tough deliberation we finally settled on the three finalists who will go on to produce a pilot for their proposed reality series under the mentorship of our partner companies,’ says Kirsty Galliard of General Post, originator of the competition.
