CWU statement on SABC developments

The Communication Workers Union has issued the following statement regarding the alleged fallout (as reported in the Sunday World) between the South African Broadcasting Corporation’s GCEO Lulama Mokhobo and acting COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng. The statement reads: As CWU, we still stand firm in our support for the acting COO, GCEO and the entire SABC board.

We are quite honest and clear that there is no fallout between the acting COO and GCEO. The GCEO and acting COO have the same vision for the SABC and the acting COO has taken unpopular decisions in the interests of the public broadcaster.

Those who connive with the print media (in particular, the Sunday World) within the SABC board are very desperate; hence they seek to sow seeds of destruction within the united leadership collective at the SABC.

As CWU we are more worried about reports that there is a board member who is closely associated with some “Tenderpreneurs’ seeking to obtain lucrative tenders at the SABC, and in so doing being hell-bent to discredit other board members and group executives through fabrications and incoherent stories that harbour lies to further individual and selfish interests to the detriment of the public broadcaster in general.

We urge the executive to forge ahead with their daily tasks of turning the SABC around into a profitable entity that all South Africans can take pride in.
