South Africa has submitted a total of 820 entries for the Cannes Lions 59th International Festival of Creativity, which takes place in Cannes, France from 17 to 23 June. Organisers have received a record 34,301 entries from 87 countries for this year’s event.
Cannes Lions is regarded as the largest and most prestigious global international annual awards for creative advertising and communications.
An overall increase of 19% versus last year, entries have been submitted in 15 different categories: Creative Effectiveness, Cyber, Design, Direct, Film, Film Craft, Media, Outdoor, PR, Press, Promo & Activation, Radio, Titanium & Integrated and the new Mobile and Branded Content & Entertainment Lions categories.
The category breakdown for the South Africa entries is as follows: Film Lions – 78; Press Lions – 194; Outdoor Lions – 120; Radio Lions – 190; Cyber Lions – 18; Direct Lions – 38; Media Lions – 48; Promo & activation Lions – 30; Titanium and Integrated Lions – 12; Design Lions – 34; PR Lions – 9; Film Craft Lions – 33; Mobile Lions – 9; creative Effectiveness Lions – 1; and Branded Content & Entertainemnt Lions – 6.
