Ster-Kinekor Theatres, South Africa’s biggest movie exhibitor, has announced that a new, state of the art cinema complex is to be based at the Cradlestone Mall, a regional mall which is currently under construction on the West Rand of Johannesburg.
Fiaz Mahomed, CEO of Ster-Kinekor Theatres, comments: “After the successful opening of our theatre complex at the Mall@Carnival and more recently of Cine Prestige in Rosebank, we are very excited about this new development. Cradlestone will boast eight state of the art cinemas that can seat approximately 1,400 patrons.
“Cradlestone will have fully digitised projectors in all theatres, three 3D screens and the latest in sound system technology. The design and development is in accordance with our objective of bringing world class cinema entertainment to our customers.’
According to Hilton Dukes of Retail Africa, “We are thrilled to be working with Ster-Kinekor Theatres in the development of our entertainment offering at Cradlestone Mall. Having an “anchor entertainment tenant’ will certainly contribute to the influx of people. In addition we understand that consumers demand quality entertainment and that a good night out at the movies is a firm favourite.’
Mahomed adds, “Ster-Kinekor Theatres commitment to growing the cinema category can be seen clearly by the number of new cinemas we continue to open around South Africa. Our new cinemas emphasise our ability to grow an increasingly popular entertainment destination.’
Ster-Kinekor Theatres has taken the cinema experience online, building on the strong platform of their website by launching a mobi-site (www.sterkinekor.mobi) and the Ster-Kinekor Nokia App in September and December 2011 respectively. “Both have been extremely well received by the public and have in no small way contributed to the growth of our cinema audience,’ concludes Mahomed.
