On 16 January the South Gauteng High Court granted the urgent interdict brought by the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) against satellite pay-TV operator TopTV regarding its planned stand-alone porn bouquet comprising three hardcore channels.
According to a statement issued by TopTV, the court did not provide detailed reasons in the form of a judgement of the court.
“Until such time that we have received the full judgment, which includes the detailed reasons, we will not be in a position to comment,’ said Thato Mahapa, TopTV’s Senior Manager of Regulatory Affairs.
Meanwhile, ICASA intends holding public consultations before it decides at the end of the month whether or not to approve TopTV’s application.
