Cross-country shoot

For ad agency TBWA, director Malo 8 of Johannesburg-based Frieze Films spent three days on a cross-country shoot for a new television commercial for Cotlands, which tells a tale from the childhood of popular music star, Loyiso Bala.

During the shoot Malo 8 worked closely with a hand-picked crew to recount the moving story of a young man who did all he could to ensure he was there when his cousin needed him.

The commercial conveys an authentic sense of the past as well as the distance a journey across South Africa entails. For Malo 8 capturing the emotion, sacrifice and love via performance and shot selection was critical. The resulting commercial nabbed a spot in the Creative Circle’s Ad of the Month Awards for December.

This achievement was followed by an important spot for Coca-Cola, which gave the “Reasons to Believe’ campaign a South African voice.
