Mail & Guardian reports that the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) has applied for a court interdict to stop TopTV’s planned launch of a stand-alone package of three Playboy TV porn channels.

Representatives from ICASA and TopTV are expected to meet in court on Friday, 13 January.

ICASA has not granted TopTV the physical approval certificate required before an operator can commence broadcast of a channel.

According to ICASA spokesperson Paseka Maleka, the regulator intends to hold public hearings about the matter next week.

Meanwhile, it has already been reported that some Christian organisations plan to boycott TopTV, its advertisers and sponsors.
