A whole spate of Hollywood awards events take place at this time of the year in a run up to the Academy Awards (Oscars) in February.
The biggest pre-Oscars event is the Golden Globes and the 69th edition takes place in Los Angeles on Sunday, 15 January.
The French black and white silent film The Artist has scooped six Golden Globe nominations, with The Help and George Clooney’s The Descendants earning five nominations each. Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris received four nominations.
