The new Afrikaans language musical, Platteland (54 prints), made the number six spot in South Africa’s Combined Top 10 for the weekend of 9 to 11 December. It made R1.1m over the weekend and has accumulated a total of R5.2m in just three weeks of release.
Platteland was up against big Hollywood opposition in the form of the animated Puss in Boots (including 3D) (89 prints), which made R3.2m over the weekend. New release, the star-studded New Years Eve (70 prints) made R1.7m, Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn (90 prints) made R1.3m; the futuristic Hugh Jackman starrer Real Steel (88 prints) made R1.2m and the animated Arthur Christmas (including 3D) (80 prints) made just over R1m.
Meanwhile, the South African film, Skeem (2 prints), has made R502,660 in seven weeks of release.
