The posh but dithering British secret agent, Johnny English (played by mega-comedian Rowan Atkinson), returned full blast to South African cinemas on 14 October. Johnny English Reborn (84 prints) made R2.5m over the weekend.
It bumped blockbuster The Smurfs (including 3D) to second spot in the Combined Top 10. As at 16 October The Smurfs (104 prints) had made an astounding R20.3m in just three weeks of release.
Another 3D release, The Three Musketeers, opened over the weekend with 74 prints and made it into third spot with R983,600.
The high-grossing rom-com, Friends with Benefits (54 prints), was at number four and has made R6.9m to date. In fifth spot was What’s Your Number (50 prints), which has made R1.3m after two weeks of release.
South African films How To Steal 2 Million (6 prints) and The Bang Bang Club (1 print) continue their impressive long runs at the box office. The former has made R1.6m and the latter R1.3m.
The DRC-Belgian-French co-production, Viva Riva! (8 prints) has made R89,882 after two weeks of release.
