The premiere of the new Two and a Half Men, in which Charlie Sheen’s character is killed off and Ashton Kutcher enters the scene, drew a record number of 27.7 million viewers, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
That shows a jump of nearly 90% from the previous season premiere which averaged 14.6 million viewers. Ratings for the episode also jumped to between 10 and 12, from a rating of between 4 and 6 for the previous season premiere, and critics responded positively to the new energy of the revamped show.
After months of publicity viewers tuned in to finding out how Charlie Sheen’s character Charlie Harper would be written out of the show after Sheen was fired in March, and curiosity about Ashton Kutchers debut as a depressed internet billionaire who buys Harper’s house.
