According to The Hollywood Reporter, archivists in New Zealand have discovered the only known footage from The White Shadow, a 1924 Alfred Hitchcock film.

The British melodrama, starring Betty Compson as twin sisters, is believed to be Hitchcock’s earliest surviving feature and credits him as assistant director, art director, editor and writer.

The first three reels of the six-reel film were found in a cache of unidentified American nitrate prints at the New Zealand Film Archive in Wellington. A new preservation master and exhibition print will be sent to the US with plans for a re-premiere screening.
