Predictably, the last instalment of the Harry Potter franchise, The Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (including 3D), did enormous business over its opening weekend (15 to 17 July). Released with 96 prints the film made a staggering R8.3m.

The second biggest performer was Cars 2 (including 3D) (88 prints) which made R2.8m over the weekend. Its cumulative box office after two weeks of release is R12.6m.

In third spot was another 3D blockbuster, Transformers 3 (68 prints) which made R1.9m. Its cumulative box office after three weeks is R19.8m.

Meanwhile, the South African Afrikaans language film, Roepman, is still on circuit after nine weeks and had made R2.2m as at 17 July. It made the number eight spot on the Ster-Kinekor Top 8 for that weekend. (Figures supplied by SAFACT).
