The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has issued the following statement after meeting with the Minister of Communications, Roy Padayachie, on 29 June.

The statement reads: “The SABC welcomes the new Board members, as appointed by the President of the Republic of South Africa, His Excellency President Jacob Zuma. The four new Board members are, Dr Sethe Makhesha, Mr John Danana, Adv Cawekazi Mahlati and  Lumko Mtimde.

“At the special general meeting held with Minister Padayachie, certain amendments were made to the Memorandum of Incorporation. Amongst other things, were consequential amendments arising from repealed laws like the IBA Act. The other important amendment will give more latitude for the Board to appoint any employee of the Corporation, whom it deems fit to act in an Executive management position, if and when the need arises.

“The proposed amendments will be registered in terms of the Companies Act with immediate effect. Further announcements will be pronounced in this respect.”
