US First Lady Michelle Obama met with Hollywood’s creative community to encourage the incorporation of more military stories in movies, TV and digital programming as part of an initiative called Joining Forces, according to The Wrap.
At a panel event at the Writers Guild Theater in Beverly Hills, moderated by Star Trek director J. J. Abrams, Obama said she wanted to ensure that military families ‘feel support on the ground’.
After the event the First Lady taped an appearance on Nickelodeon’s television series iCarly as part of the effort to drum up support for military families. In the popular children’s series Carly Shay, played by Miranda Cosgrove, is the daughter of an Air Force colonel.
