Described as Johannesburg’s only independent art house and cultural cinema, The Bioscope celebrated its first birthday on 8 June. In the first year of its existence it has not only screened films but hosted festivals, live talks, bands and live link-ups with other cinemas.
The Bioscope was created with the aim of increasing the diversity of content on South African movie screens. In bringing new films to new audiences, The Bioscope grows new markets for new films and is proud to be involved in developing local audiences for locally and internationally produced cinema.
