The Creative Circle, the South African industry body dedicated to raising and maintaining high standards of creativity in advertising, has launched an internship programme in partnership with Imagination Lab and a bursary programme together with the AAA School of Advertising.
Ten students placed across the country for a period of three months will be supported and mentored through the internship programme. The AAA bursary programme will provide 50% tuition for six students from previously disadvantaged backgrounds.
Said Creative Circle chairman Brett Morris: “The future of the creative industry in South Africa is heavily dependent on stakeholders nurturing and managing young talent and as a body we are focusing much of our time and resources towards this effort.’
Neo Mashigo, head of The Creative Circle education sub-committee, interviewed and selected the students, who begin their internship this month. “It’s really important that the industry helps to mentor young talent and give them an opportunity to work in a real agency environment,’ commented Mashigo. “If the candidates apply themselves and show potential, we’re hoping to extend their internships and ultimately to get them employed by the agencies on a full time basis.’
The Creative Circle also thanked Primedia Unlimited, sponsors of the Ad of the Year and Ad of the Month, for its generous contribution that has made these initiatives possible.
