Academy Award broadcast

The 83rd Academy Awards (Oscars), which take place on Sunday, 27 February, will be broadcast live in South African by pay-TV broadcaster M-Net.

Actors James Franco and Anne Hathaway will co-host the Oscars, one of America’s biggest red carpet award ceremonies. The event takes place at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood and will be broadcast live on Monday 28 February at 03:30 on MM1 (and simulcast on MM1HD).

Some of presenters on the night will be Halle Berry, Cate Blanchett, Jeff Bridges, Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, Zachary Levi, Gwyneth Paltrow, Oprah Winfrey, amongst others.

The Kings Speech received 12, followed by The Grit with 10, The Social Network and Inception with eight each. The highly contested categories include Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Actress in a Leading Role, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Director and Best Picture.

This year, the broadcast will kick off with the KABC and AMPAS Pre-Shows. The re-broadcast of the award ceremony will be later the same evening at 20:30 on M-Net and M-Net HD. Viewers will have a final opportunity to catch an edited version, as well as the Post-Show Winners Ceremony on Sunday 6 March on MM1 and MM1HD.
