After 11 and 10 weeks of release on the South African cinema circuit respectively, the local hit films Liefling and Spud are still drawing in audiences. As at 10 February Liefling (2 prints) had made R13.2m and Spud (19 prints) R16.7m.
The biggest earner for the weekend of 11 to 13 February was the animated Rapunzel tale, Tangled (including 3D) (86 prints) which raked in a cool R2.2m. Its cumulative box office since releasing three weeks ago is R11.4m.
In second spot was another 3D offering, The Green Hornet (84 prints) which took R910,991 over the weekend.
Two new releases made the third and fourth spots, the romcom Morning Glory (61 prints) and Oscar frontrunner, The King’s Speech (25 prints). The films made R910,991 and R900,693 respectively.
In fifth spot was the Hollywood blockbuster, The Tourist (71 prints), which was released six weeks ago and had made R12.8m by 13 February.
