On Digital Media (ODM) has announced that its satellite pay-TV service, TopTV, which launched in May last year, reached the 200,000 subscriber mark by December 2010. There were a record 50,000 activations in December alone. If calculated on an average of four viewers per household, this means that TopTV has over 800,000 viewers.
According to TopTV CEO Vino Govender, TopTV has been recognised by industry specialists as the fastest growing TV platform around the globe with monthly growth rates / activations surpassing that of platforms in both India and China.
“We always believed that there was a need for an innovative and affordable pay-TV service in South Africa and our subscribers confirm this every day,’ says Govender. “This year will bring with new additions to the TopTV offering, including in particular a sports channel by the third quarter, new HD channels at no extra subscription fee (which will come in about a year from now) and an HD Personal Video Recorder (PVR).’
