The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that the lavishTV series The Kennedys which was pulled by The History Channel, will not find a new home at Showtime. Producers of the drama, Muse Entertainment and Asylum Entertainment, had hoped that Showtime would agree to air the programme because in 2004 they accepted the controversial miniseries The Reagans after it was pulled from CBC due to advertiser concerns about the content.
Both History and Showtime have commented on the eight-part series as well-produced, well-acted and quality work.
Screen Africa must conclude that the Kennedy clan continues to wield great influence because the refusal to air the series is a form of censorship. The series starring Greg Kinnear as John F Kennedy and katie Holmes as Jackie Kennedy apparently touches on some of the sexual escapades of the former American president.
