The Moshito Music Conference and Exhibition’s new Board was elected at the AGM held at the organisation’s offices in Newtown, Johannesburg in November.
Andre le Roux, General Manager of Samro Endowment, at the Southern African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO), was elected chairperson for a third term.
“I’m honoured to be able to lead Moshito into 2011,’ said Le Roux. “It’s going to be a crucial year for Moshito as we grow into a sustainable organisation that plays an increasingly important role in the South African music industry and the country’s economy as a whole.’
Sibusiso Tshabalala, of the Music Managers Forum of SA (MMFSA) was elected vice-chair whilst Motlokoe “King’ Phatudi-Mphahlele of the National Organisation for Reproduction Rights in Music in Southern Africa Limited (NORM) was elected to the position of treasurer and Ms Tholsi Pillay, also of the MMFSA, was elected as an additional Exco Member. Moshito’s interim audited financial statements for the six months period 1 January – 30 June 2010 was presented to the board at the AGM by Lutrin Abrams Chartered Accountants (S.A), Moshito’s auditors, since the board amended its financial year in the last AGM.
“I feel positive that we have a committed board and administration that can build on our corporate governance and institutional capacity in 2011,’ said Le Roux.
“Already 2010 saw Moshito add to its activities – complementing the annual conference and exhibition with management of several of the live components staged during the 2010 FIFA World Cup and having a strong presence at Midem 2010. We intend to take that all up a notch in 2011.’
