The new Afrikaans musical, Liefling (95 prints), made R1.9m during its opening weekend (19 to 21 November) at the South African box office. Featuring a plethora of popular Afrikaans songs and performers, Liefling is the first Afrikaans musical to hit the big screen in 30 years.
The second biggest opener over the weekend was a new release, the action comedy Red (45 prints), starring Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman, which made R988,906.
In third spot was the runaway train saga, Unstoppable (61 prints) which made R846,132 but which has made a total of R2.5m since its release on 12 November.
New release Jackass 3 (including 3D) (34 prints) debuted in fourth spot with R846,132.
Life As We Know it (62 prints) was in fifth spot with R851,402, with a cumulative box office of R5.3m after four weeks.
