On 22 November, the entire Italian film industry will down tools in a general strike to protest against the cuts to the country’s 2011 Budget Law. Movie theatres, along with film and television sets, post-production houses, service companies, etc. will all shut down for the day.
According to Cineuropa, the protest, organised by Italy’s top union organisations, is also against “political inactivity with regard to system reforms and to save jobs".
Protestors and unions are lobbying for a national law for the sector; increasing the Entertainment Industry Fund back to the 2008 level of €450m; and reinstating the tax shelter and tax credit.
