The famous film producer Dino De Laurentiis, died at the age of 91 at his home in Beverly Hills on Thursday 11 November.
De Laurentiis was born near the southern Italian city of Naples, but moved to Los Angeles in the 1960s after the failure of an ambitious plan to create a rival to Rome’s storied Cinecitta Studios called DinoCitta. He, however, continued to keep close contact with the Italian film industry.
There was wide coverage on Italian television and print media when the news broke of De laurentiis’ death on Thursday. Tributes flowed in from across the Itlaian political spectrum as well as from actors and directors who had worked with De Laurentiis. Sophia Loren who knew the producer from the start of her career in the 1950s, said she felt “intense pain’ at the loss of De Laurentiis.
