Troubled state-owned signal distributor Sentech has been dealt another blow – the resignation of its board chairman, Quraysh Patel, after only seven months of service. Newly appointed  Minister of Communications Roy Padayachie received Patel’s letter of resignation on 9 November.

Board member Leah Khumalo has been appointed as acting chairman.

According to TechCentral, Patel had been wanting to leave for several months to pursue his own interests, free from perceptions of "conflict of interests".

The resignation comes shortly after Patel told Parliament’s communication committee that “fraudulent cases’ amounting to R120m had been uncovered at Sentech.

Patel was quoted in My Broadband on 10 November as saying that Sentech was now “financially secure’ and would be operational once senior executives were appointed to support the new CEO Dr Setumo Mohapi.
