Manchester United is one of the top teams in the Barclays English Premiership League and is based at the Old Trafford stadium in the Greater Manchester region in England. The club is arguably the most popular football club in the world with an estimated 5% (330 million people) of the world’s population supporting it.

Manchester United was the founding member of the Premier League in 1992 and has been playing in the top division of English football since 1938. Lovingly referred to as “The Red Devils’, Manchester United is the second most successful club in the history of English football and is by far the most triumphant in recent times, having won 20 major honours since Sir Alex Ferguson started as manager in November 1986. The team has won England’s top division 17 times, one short of Liverpool’s 18 league titles.

In 1968 Manchester United became the first English club to win the UEFA Champions League title when they beat S.L Benfica 4-1. They won a second UEFA Champions League title as part of their unprecedented treble in 1999 (Manchester United also won the F.A Cup and English Premiership).

Manchester United’s’ winning streak has always relied on its’ powerful forwards and near unbreakable backline. One of the best defenders currently playing for the team is Rio Ferdinand who started his football career off as a striker. Ferdinand is assisted at the back by Wes Brown, Gary Neville and Patrice Evra. Their midfield is one of the most impressive attacking and defensive, with players like Nani, Michael Carrick, Park Ji Sung, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes. While their forwards Wayne Rooney, Michael Owen and new addition Dimitar Berbatov, have the ability to move the ball from midfield to opponents goals seamlessly.

Manchester United were sitting in position three after seven games in the current season of the Barclays English Premiership League.
