The new Afrikaans-language South African film, Bakgat 2 (31 prints), had made R4.9m at the local box office as at 10 October. It was in the number nine spot of the Combined Top 10 for the weekend.
Another Afrikaans film, Susanna van Biljon (17 prints), was in fourth spot of Nu Metro’s Top 8. It has made R973,241 after two weeks.
The third South African film currently on release, Long Street (8 prints), has been at the cinemas for two weeks and has made R41,649 to date.
Julia Roberts’ new film, Eat Pray Love (84), which also stars fellow Oscar-winner Javier Bardem, opened at the box office over the weekend and was the top earner with R2.8m.
The animated Despicable Me (86 prints) was in second spot. It has been on release for two weeks and has a cumulative box office of R6.6m.
After four weeks Karate Kid (86 prints) continues to do well and has made R10.4m to date. It was in the third spot on the top 10, followed by The Other Guys (53 prints) and Why Did I Get Married Too? (40 prints). (Figures supplied by SAFACT)
