Sofia Coppola triumphs in Venice

Somewhere, the new film from Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation, Marie Antoinette), was awarded the Golden Lion for Best Film at the 67th Venice Film Festival which came to a close on 12 September.

Penned by Coppola herself, Somewhere stars Benicio del Toro and Steven Dorff. It tells of a hard-living Hollywood actor who re-examines his life after his 11-year-old daughter surprises him with a visit. |

Alex de la Iglesia won Best Diriector for Balada Triste de Trompeta, with the Special Jury Prize awarded to Essential Killing, directed by Polish filmmaker Jerzy Skolimowski.

The Best Actor and Best Actress awards went to Vincent Gallo in Essential Killing and Ariane Labed in Attenberg. Mila Kunis won the Marcello Mastroianni Award for Best Young Actor or Actress for her performance in Black Swan.

Alex de la Iglesia for Balada Triste de Trompeta won Best Screenplay and Monte Hellman won the Special Lion for Overall Work.
