The Broadcasting, Electronic Media and Allied Workers’ Union (Bemawu) believes that public broadcaster SABC’s newly appointed executive manager for stakeholder management, Hlaudi Motsoeneng, was hired irregularly by recently suspended GCEO Solly Mokoetle.

Bemawu claims Motsoeneng is closely linked to President Jacob Zuma and that he lied on his application form, saying he had passed matric.

On 1 September Business Day published the following statement from Bemawu president Hannes du Buisson: “"Such a position – manager of stakeholder relations – has never existed at the SABC before. He has never spoken to us and we are stakeholders."
