Three of MultiChoice’s former Film Talent Incubator (FTI) candidates – Palesa Shongwe, Khanyisile Maimela and Tamandani Kapisa – were selected to showcase their work at the International Encounters Documentary film festival in Johannesburg and Cape Town. The festival ended on 29 August.
Itumeleng Letebele, Corporate Social Investment Manager at MultiChoice says that their selection was proof that the FTI programme is working and making a lasting impact on the candidates and the industry. The FTI is a corporate social investment programme initiated by MultiChoice to fast-track the development of industry talent, specifically previously disadvantaged individuals.
Shongwe, who is a former FTI candidate, had two of her films selected as part of the 50 shown at the festival. “The festival has provided me with an opportunity to share with the viewers the lives of ordinary people,’ she says.
She also attributes her success to the FTI programme. “It has helped me understand what kind of film maker I could be and want to be. I could not have done these films without having attended the programme’.
