The free-to-air digital satellite joint venture between BBC and ITV, Freesat, may move into the pay-TV arena. If this comes about Freeview users will have the chance to subscribe to Sky Sports 1 and 2.
According to The Guardian, Freesat would operate the pay-TV conditional access system while subscription sales would be handled by another company. However, for Freesat to proceed on the pay-TV route it would need the BBC Trust’s approval.
Freesat was launched in May 2008 to assist UK viewers in the digital migration process.
