UK film industry weathering recession

According to an independent report published this month by Oxford Economics, the UK film industry contributes a total of over £4.5bn a year to the country’s GDP. The UK’s film tax relief is considered vital to job creation and global competitiveness.

Commissioned by the UK Film Council, Pinewood Shepperton plc, Framestore, Cinesiteand Double Negative, the report – The Economic Impact of the UK Film Industry – asserts that not only is the industry coping well with the recession, but that it is headed for long term growth.

The report finds that the industry employs around 36,000 people, an increase of 7% since 2006.
