Cineuropa reports that the European Commission has finally approved the Film Decree, which was first drawn up in December 2008. The Decree aims to maintain and improve the European film funding system over the long term by providing a legislative foundation to film support.

It also aims to expand funding for screenwriting and pre-production, updating promotion funding to include new media, and emphasising cultural diversity.

The Decree still has to be approved by the European State Council, the French Community government and Parliament.
