Business Day reports that SABC GCEO Solly Mokoetle announced on 1 June that Phil Molefe had been appointed head of news, a week after the SABC board overturned Mokoetle’s and board chairperson Ben Ngubane’s decision to appoint Molefe, on the grounds that the appointment had been made without consulting the board.
In the meantime, it is believed that head of radio news Mapule Mbhalati was put under pressure to resign after she disputed the Molefe appointment on air. It has also been reported that Molefe instructed his news staff not to air anything negative about his appointment.
It is likely that the board will take action against Mokoetle.
