Saffron TV, the DStv channel geared at South Africa’s Indian viewers, will launch a weekly news show on 5 June which will inform the local audience about current events in India. The show, Saffron India Khabbar, covers entertainment, politics, business, sport, religious events and travel. It is locally produced in a partnership with ANI (Asian News International) – South Asia’s leading multi-media news agency.
Says Saffron TV channel manager Aleeshia Naidoo: “Saffron TV is not positioned as a news channel but this new show aims to keep our viewers in touch and up to date with what’s happening on the Indian sub-continent. These news items are not “breaking world news headlines’, but rather reflect the trends, interests and psyche of India.
“We select the stories viewers most enjoy and want to see – interesting, unusual, human interest stories about business, entertainment and community projects ie. a floating school for underprivileged kids, Bollywood stars’ comments, or workshops run for traumatized kin and victims’ of Mumbai attacks.’
The first show airs on Saturday, 5 June at 13h30 (DSTV Open time on Channel 456), with a repeat on Sunday at 21h00. Saffron TV – available to DSTV’s Indian subscribers, and also in Open Time on channel 456 on Saturdays and Sundays between 13h00 and 18h00.
