Shahir Zag, chief creative officer at Y&R Middle East & North Africa (MENA), will join the Advertising and Integrated Campaign judging panels for the 2010 Loerie Awards, the premier brand communication awards for South Africa, Africa and the Middle East.
“It’s really fantastic that someone with Shahir’s credentials is joining us as a judge,’ says Brett Morris, executive creative director at Draftfcb and chairman of the Creative Circle. “The Loerie Awards is the most coveted award show in the region and his experience and fresh perspective will be a welcome addition to our judging panel.’
Under Zag’s creative leadership, Y&R MENA has become the most awarded agency in the Middle East. He is also a founding member of the Creative Club, the region’s first industry association aiming to raise the overall standard of advertising in Dubai. Zag is a copywriter by trade, but has also received recognition for his work in advertising design. His TV, print and multimedia campaigns have been awarded at Cannes, Clios, One Show, Dubai Lynx, London International Awards and the New York Festival.
Says Zag: “The Loeries are probably the only regional show where the top winners go on and win at every international show. Not only does that say the standard of South African advertising is incredibly high, but that the standard of the Loeries judging is even higher.’
The Loeries Judging Week runs from 17 – 25 August and Zag will be speaking at the Loeries Judges Seminar on 20 August, providing insight into the work coming out of the MENA region.
Anyone from Africa and the Middle East still wanting to enter the Loeries can do so until 31 May. For more information visit www.theloerieawards.co.za.
