The first of its kind, the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers’ (SMPTE) International Conference on Stereoscopic 3D for Media and Entertainment (13 – 14 July, New York) will have a deliberate focus on the theoretical and scientific aspects of 3D for media and entertainment, featuring academic research, lab study results, and discussions of emerging and experimental technologies. 

Session highlights include stereoscopic 3D image acquisition; 2D to 3D conversion; computer-generated 3D virtual space; plus transmission and display technologies. Specific topics include human perception as it relates to stereopsis; advances in stereoscopic camera architectures; multi-view video coding; light field camera applications for 3D image acquisition; real-time 2D to 3D conversion algorithms; 3D tracking software; advances in autostereoscopic displays; and emerging technologies.
